The warmest of welcomes to The Hills, where fresh air, good company and inspiring conversation add up to the good life.
My abiding passion is simple country living, and The Hills is my home on the internet where I share my favourite rustic discoveries. From artisan products, high end homeware and idyllic walks to the very best of rural staycations and innovative business, The Hills promotes the too-often unsung heroes and beauties of our British countryside.
For too long I felt that these hidden gems needed a quality platform from which they could really display their worth, and The Hills is my response to that long-held belief. I’m a huge advocate of living and working rurally for the unbeatable sense of community, the vibrancy and the people to offer just three reasons. I love how so many rural businesses and entrepreneurs seem to fuse innovative thinking with traditional values - they’re a constant source of inspiration, and the very reason that I established The Hills. My aim has always been to help small businesses to reach a larger community and I aim to bring beautiful high-quality handmade products to my readers and audience who believe in the value and ethics of shopping independent and shopping small.
Julie Andrews was right - the hills are alive, and they’re alive with vibrant communities, inventive enterprises and fresh thinking. I hope that you’ll become part of our ongoing conversation here at The Hills, sharing your thoughts, experiences and advice and engaging with other countryside lovers.
Country walks in clear air with the dogs; discovering the finest arts and crafts; great company in which chat and laughter is intermingled and, above everything, a deep love for the place you live. That’s what the good life means to me.
I’m Janet, and I live at the foot of the beautiful Welsh Hills with my children Mary, 21, and Mark, 17. We share our four-acre plot with our six dogs, six cats (plus a cheeky regular overnight visitor!), four hens, an assortment of wild ducks and all the other wonderful wildlife that visits our garden. Now I want to share the joys of my life in the country and invite you to read all about it here in The Hills. It isn’t a glamorous life but it is wonderful, healthy and hearty and full of the very best of people.
By welcoming our very favourite creatives to share their items in our store, The Hills provides them with a platform which feels as strongly about small business support as they do, and promotes their businesses to all those who I know share this notion with me.
I can’t wait to tell you more, so what do you say? Care to join us for a coffee and a taste of simple living?
